History
Zoe was a criminology student in Cleveland, Ohio. When Eric Olson started killing, she noticed the sudden spike of murders in the area and started analyzing it. When David Rossi, of whom she was a fan, came to the town for a book tour. She asked if the BAU had been notified on the murders, but since there was no solid victimology, M.O., or otherwise, Rossi dismissed the theory, gave her his business card and told her not to give up until she found all the answers. Inspired by this, she visited the crime scene of the last victim where she encountered Eric, who pretended to be a passersby. When he realized that she was investigating his murders, he strangled her with her own scarf.
When local police investigated Zoe's murder, they found Rossi's business card on her and called him. Feeling guilty, Rossi called the rest of the BAU, who noticed the connection between the murders: they were copycat murders of famous serial killers of the past. After investigating, they found that Eric used to kiss the foreheads of the victims he strangled after his copycat period. Since all the copycat victims had been buried or cremated, Zoe's body was the only source of DNA evidence against Eric, who had a criminal record and was therefore in the system, was found, arrested, and confessed during questioning. Zoe was later buried.
